274 Storm over the Brittany Cliffs 31 x 22.5 cm £260

When painting this picture I was eager to paint the atmosphere that was present on another occasion when I was walking this coastline. The sketch provided me with the features of the coast but I wanted to show the threatening weather conditions with wind and clearing rain that I had carried the image in my mind. With the aid of a photograph taken at the time I painted the scene, trying to capture the wind, not only in the sky, but by introducing the boats in the far distance. The two figures helped to emphasise the isolation of the place induced by the rough weather conditions.
