241 France Profond. 55 x 15.5cm £220

I enjoyed sketching this scene one lovely morning in May. I wanted to capture the brightness of the day, the jumble and high tone of the buildings and the starkness of the tree. I deliberately chose to keep the foreground uncluttered with a granulated wash that expressed some of the foreground texture. This picture may be found illustrated in The New Encyclopedia of Watercolor Techniques.
