237 PS Cross Chanel Ferry at Stone

Whilst walking by the River Thames I saw this ferry, the 'Serpentine'. The intricacy of marine subjects always delights me, so I drew it in some detail. I concentrated on the stern section as I did not wish to draw a portrait of the ship; neither did I wish to turn the sketch into a long thin composition. Whilst sketching a small craft came down the river the other side of the ferry but I quickly drew it in front of the ship to provide a sense of scale. This drawing was done on a large sheet of paper rather than in a sketchbook.
