When I decided to paint this scene I decided that I would break the first rule of composition and place the subject in the centre of the picture and create the composition interest by the use of dark tones and textures. The second issue was to use the dark tones to contrast with the high tones that I wanted to introduce into picture. I leave you to judge whether I have succeeded.
